“... They have learned how to set a goal and achieve it ... ”
Bobby Lawrence Karate has taught our children not only karate, but so much more about life. They have learned respect, confidence, discipline and what is truly important in life. They have learned how to set a goal and achieve it. They have made great friends. They have learned how to be taught and how to be leaders. They have learned self defense, stranger danger and encouraged to keep their bodies strong and healthy by avoiding drugs or anything that is harmful to their body and mind. Now that our son is a black belt, he is so glad he made the commitment to join six years ago. Our daughter is looking forward to follow in her brother's footsteps.
“... Our experience with ... Bobby Lawrence Karate system has been phenomenal ... ”
Our experience with Dallas Lawrence and the Bobby Lawrence Karate system has been phenomenal - some of the finest teaching and team-building we have ever experienced. Our son has learned tremendous skills, practices, and values that extend well beyond karate. He has also made great friends and enjoyed the influence of fine student leaders. We are proud to be part of the Bobby Lawrence Karate family and highly recommend the program to anyone looking to enhance their physical skills, leadership potential and character.
“... I am very glad I did not let my age keep me from signing up for karate... ”
As an adult martial arts student, I realize the best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The next best time is right now. I am very glad I did not let my age keep me from signing up for karate. Adults seem to gain a certain passion and energy from this type of activity. I also feel like I can relate to my children better and I have an opportunity to set an example for them.
“... The lessons on respect that are taught are amazing ... ”
I can not say enough about the incredible experience we have had with Bobby Lawrence Karate in American Fork. I have a son who had tried every sport, and just had not found one that fit really well with him. He loved the physical aspect of different sports, but did not really enjoy all the competitive nature that many had, and the pressure he felt from some of the coaches to be the best at all times, and that winning was the most important part of playing. We decided to try Karate because We had heard that they emphasize not only the physical aspects of the sport, but also a very positive competitive spirit. As a mom I was very hesistant to have my son learn "fighting" (or what I thought Karate was about). I met with the head instructor of the A.F. school, and he told me about the mission of the Bobby Lawrence schools. I have never been so impressed with a sports program in all my life. Dallas talked to me and my son, told my son what would be expected of him, and the rules that he would need to follow to be enrolled in this program. We decided to give it a 6 week trial period to see if this program was going to really deliver on all the things Dallas told me it was going to give my son. That was almost 3 years ago. It has not only delivered on everything Dallas told us it would, but so much more. I now have 3 of my children in karate; 2 boys and a girl (my daughter loves it just as much as the boys).I am so impressed with team spirit that is emphasized in each lesson, and the cheering that the kids do for one another, even when there may be one child that is slower than the rest, and the team has to wait for him. The lessons on respect that are taught are amazing. Dallas has come to each of my children's school classes and given talks on respect, and how to deal with bullies, and how to be the best person you can be.We have had the "Inspector General" (one of the karate instructors) come to our home and check to see if the kids are keeping their rooms clean (one of the rules you must agree to).I have been able to meet with Dallas and discuss my son breaking a rule of karate by not doing his best in his school work, and have had Dallas help me get him to understand the importance of doing your best at everything you do, even school work, and even when its not fun... still do your best. My son has tried out for the SWAT team (special winning attitude team) it is a preformace team that represents the karate school. They compete at tournaments, preformed at the Utah Jazz game, A BYU game, Belt promotions, and even the opening of a movie. We have had such wonderful experiences as a family because of this program. We get to watch our children grow and develop skills and positive values, and learn to respect each other, themselves, and those that they will deal with on a daily basis. The things taught at this school reinforce what we as parents are trying to teach our children. The instructors at the school are all amazing people who enforce the same values and lessons. My children love all the instructors, and consider them all to be friends. My family really does feel like we have a second family at the school, our kids have great friends there, I have formed great friendships with other karate parents, and we all feel like Dallas and his wife Arlynn are always looking out for the best interest of our kids. I would recommend to any parent to give this sport a try, and see what it can do to help your kids too.
